Pico Ruivo – Sinta-se no céu
Madeira is known for it’s natural charms, which delight thousands of people, and nature lovers who visit the island for holidays.
There are few places in the world where, in 20 minutes, you can go from sea level, after an early morning dip, up to 1862m altitude for a trek through the mountainous massif of Madeira Island, where the Pico Ruivo, the highest in the region, is located .
To reach the Pico Ruivo there are three alternatives with different degrees of difficulty:
1 – Pico do Areeiro – Pico Ruivo
This magnificent and lush course is the most beautiful and challenging, somewhat complicated because the constant descents and ascents, made through by the hundreds of stairs that are scattered along the trail.
2 – Achada do Teixeira – Pico Ruivo
Starting at the north side of the island, more precisely in Santana, this route is shorter and more accessible for those who want to reach the top of the island.
3 – Encumeada – Pico Ruivo
It is the longest of the three tracks. The walk begins in Encumeada towards the 1862m of altitude of Pico Ruivo. Like the trail that starts at Pico do Areeiro, this walk requires some physical resistance because of the distance.
